Infinity Auto Insurance Review 2026: Now Kemper Auto, With Complaint Data

Infinity now sells as Kemper Auto, a non-standard car insurer in 22 states. Its California complaint ratio halved since 2023; in Texas it runs 3x average.

If you are searching for Infinity auto insurance, you will mostly find Kemper Auto. Kemper bought Infinity in 2018 and now sells that business under its own brand. The Infinity insurance companies still issue policies and still show up in state complaint data under their own names, which is how we can review them.

The Verdict

A mainstream option for drivers who need non-standard auto insurance, with an improving record in California and a weak one in Texas.

From Infinity to Kemper Auto

Kemper’s July 2018 filing says it “completed its acquisition of Infinity on July 2, 2018.” Kemper’s 2025 annual report now describes the business this way:

  • The Specialty Property & Casualty Insurance segment “conducts business in 22 states under the Kemper Auto brand.”
  • It “provides personal automobile insurance to consumers who have had difficulty obtaining standard or preferred risk insurance, usually because of their driving records, claims experience or premium payment history.” It also writes commercial auto for contractors, short-haul delivery and sales and service businesses.
  • It distributes “primarily through independent agents and brokers,” with a smaller share through direct-to-consumer and captive channels.
  • Kemper is exiting its separate Preferred Insurance business, which it reports as non-core.

Kemper’s list of subsidiaries still includes Infinity Insurance Company, Infinity Auto Insurance Company, Infinity Casualty Insurance Company and several more, plus Infinity County Mutual Insurance Company in Texas, which it marks as a company that “may be deemed to be an affiliate.”

Complaint Record

California: Improving, and Now Below the Median

Infinity Insurance Company is the 6th-largest insurer in California’s 2026 auto complaint study by exposures, at about 1.49 million. Its justified complaints fell from 93 in 2023 to 60 in 2024 to 39 in 2025, and its ratio from 5.4 to 4.1 to 2.6 per 100,000.

That is a meaningful turnaround: in 2023 Infinity was more than twice the median; in 2025 it was better than it. For context, the non-standard insurers at the bottom of the same study ran far higher: Loya Casualty at 17.8, Permanent General at 18.3, Integon Preferred at 21.5. Texas: Consistently About Three Times Average

Texas tells a different story. Infinity County Mutual Insurance Company had 33 confirmed complaints on 65,556 policies in 2025, a complaint index of 3.06, essentially unchanged from 3.07 (21 complaints on 63,889 policies) in 2024. Among the 67 Texas auto insurers with at least 10,000 policies, that ranks 61st. Other non-standard writers in the same table range from Dairyland County Mutual at 0.41 to Loya at 7.78; see our Texas car insurance complaint index.

Who It Suits

  • Drivers who have been turned down or priced out by standard carriers, because of tickets, accidents, a lapse in coverage or payment history. That is the market Kemper says this business serves.
  • Californians in particular, where most of its business is and where its complaint record has improved to below the median.
  • Drivers who want to buy through an agent or broker.

Compare carefully if you are in Texas, where its complaint index has been about three times the market average two years running. And if your record is clean, compare it with standard-market carriers too; our best car insurance ranking scores six national insurers. Other non-standard insurers we review include Dairyland, National General, Fred Loya and GoAuto. If a court or DMV has ordered proof of coverage, see what SR-22 insurance is.
